Get a US IP address on iPhone and iPad

By US IP Guy

get a us ip address on ipad and iphoneIn the US, I was used to watching Netflix and Hulu on my iPhone and it was very good experience for me to watch my favorite movies online. These two websites provide high quality video streaming from iPhones and iPads .The video and sound quality is just awesome. I have a lot of choices for watching movies and TV shows episodes anywhere and anytime.

Hulu and Netflix are banned outside the US

When I moved away from the US and tried accessing these online video streaming websites, I came to know that I actually cannot access these websites because I was not in the US. These servers require a US IP address for logging in. Then I started searching if I could get a US IP address on my iPhone and iPad. After many trials and using many options, I found that a VPN is the best solution to get a US IP address on iPhone and iPad.

Why a VPN and not a proxy?

I know, if you’re ending up here, you’re probably wondering what happened to proxies.  Proxies are great for general browsing.  If you just want to browse websites like Facebook and YouTube, the a proxy will work fine, and it will probably be cheaper. There’s a really good web based proxy to get a US IP address on iPad/iPhone called SecuriTales. There’s FREE trial, and it’s only $6 USD per month.

However, web based proxies present a number of problems.

  1. You can’t choose your server location
  2. Other applications on your iPhone/iPad will still use your local IP address
  3. You can’t stream video from Netflix/Hulu

VPNs take care of all these problems.  You can choose your server location based on country/city.  It’ll give you an IP address that Hulu and Netflix will accept. It also encrypts your entire device, so the US IP address on your iPad/iPhone will be used for games, VoIP calls, and other applications that use the internet.  It’s also a lot easier to run. Setting it up is a bit more involved that with a us ip address iphone ipadweb based proxy, which needs no installation at all, but in the end you’ll save more time.  All you need to do is flick it on, and then continue to do whatever it is you do.  It runs in the background, and you can forget about it. My main gripe with web based proxies is that you have to access their secure browser, and any sites you want to unblock have to be typed into it.

Remember that iPhone/iPad will use PPTP or L2TP VPN.  PPTP is faster, but L2TP is more secure.  Most services will recommend L2TP, and I do too. In most cases, the speed difference between PPTP and L2TP is negligible, and the security features of L2TP make it an easy better choice.

Which VPN services are best for a US IP address on iPand and iPhone?

There are a lot of services out there. I’ve tried more than ten over the years, and I’ve narrowed it down to two services – 12VPN and StrongVPN.

12vpn iphone ipad12VPN – First of all, they’ve got a US Only service, which is just what you need. Lots of VPN services flash how many VPN servers they have and the thousands of IP addresses use like it matters.  Most of the time, for most users, you won’t use more than a few IP addresses, is one or two country locations, depending on your VPN needs. If you want to get a US IP address on iPhone and iPad, then why do you need servers in France, Japan, Germany, and Hong Kong?  For limiting yourself to US servers only, you save $50 USD a year.  Their US Only Plan is only $79, which great price considering you get PPTP and L2TP VPN protocols, unlimited bandwidth, free updates, and friendly service. Their site is easy to navigate, which makes purchasing a VPN for newbies very easy.  Fast, reliable, and cheap is all you could ask for in a VPN service.

strongvpn us ip addressStrongVPN is a major VPN service.  They’ve got the brand, they’ve got the goods, and they provide awesome and reliable service. There’s live support, and an array of choices for VPN protocol, length of contract, server locations, and they even have ready-to-buy packages for users based on your location.  If you don’t know what you need, their live support can make a suggestion, which makes sorting through all those options more manageable.  If you want SSL/OpenVPN, you’ll pay a bit more than other services, but for iPhone/iPad, we don’t need (can’t use) that.  For PPTP/L2TP VPN, you pay only $75 USD for the year.  Aside from the VPN protocol limitations, you’ll also be limited to servers in The USA. However, if you want to get a US IP address on iPad or iPhone, these are are exactly the things you’re looking for, so why get more than you need.
